Landscaping for Your Tiny House
How we integrate our Tiny Homes to your site is a vital part of the service we offer – we can’t just build a beautiful building for you and then drop it off just with some steps to the front door! We offer a full exterior design service free of charge as part of any order. We can then quote for the work or leave you with a design for you to use as you prefer.
Before we begin to consider the exterior space we have to carry out a full site survey so as to position the tiny house correctly within the landscape – often that means utilising a South Westerly aspect to get the most sun and solar benefits. This lends itself to having a deck or patio area which is most exposed to the sun.
When thinking about an exterior space for a tiny house we have to be quite specific about what it is being used for. For the purposes of this article I have focused on landscaping a Tiny House for the hospitality and rental market rather than for full time living, however, some of the principles are very relevant for both.
Hospitality Market
If you’ve ordered a Tiny House from us, congratulations, you are already going to stand out from all your competition, but when people book these experience holidays, the excitement should start as soon as they park their car – so what’s the first thing say see? How do you create the theatre these buildings warrant?
If you are in a woodland setting, it can be very low impact landscaping – fire pits, ASADO cooking set up; outdoor cast iron bath tubs, log stacks, paths can be created with mulch and edged in timber. If your setting is more exposed or agricultural, you may want to consider a bit more of a structure for shelter – a lean to perhaps to house an outdoor kitchen, seating or bar area.
Below we’ve compiled a list of all the little extras to think about for the hospitality market:
Outdoor kitchen/BBQ
Hot Tub
Sauna
Outdoor seating
Outdoor Bath/Shower
Netted chill out area
Hammock
Exterior lighting
Fire Pit
Simple outdoor games like Hammerschlagen
Remember a lot of these “extras” can either be factored into your price point or can be used for up-selling opportunities such as additional charges for hot tubs, steam rooms, BBQ packs, firewood bundles. These are also the things that become your point of difference in a crowded market.
